The best kept secrets of Dubai (Part I)

Beyond the innate beauty on offer – golden, thanks to the rays of the sun – its ethnic touch and a special charm that will appeal to everyone, Dubai is a place surrounded by luxuries that you simply have to visit, at least once in your lifetime. It’s a magic destination with elegance and glamour permeating every nook and cranny, filling every building, and it offers you an endless supply of secrets that deserve to be discovered.

Secrets like? We’ll see more of these secrets further on, but a good example would be  majestic and incredible skyscrapers such as the Burj Al Arab or the Arabian Courtyard Hotel & Spa, a hotel in the centre of Bur Dubai that’s become a benchmark for international tourism, providing you with the best rooms in Bur Dubai.

Dubai and its golden link

That Dubai is a city that has the word ‘luxury’ firmly stamped on its DNA is something that virtually everyone knows, but did you know that it’s known as ‘the golden city’?

This name goes back many years, and on the market place (the ‘souk’) there are more than three hundred stores dedicated to trade involving this sought-after, noble metal. Another curious fact to keep in mind is that the city of Dubai carries out the highest number of gold transactions in the entire world. And remember that this is the only city in the world where you’ll find cash dispensers that dispense gold bullion. Yes, it’s true.

The origin of a multi-racial population

Even if the country is considered to be one of the richest and most luxurious in the world, this doesn’t mean that all of its citizens can enjoy that kind of wealth. It’s actually rather striking that the rate of Emiratis is that low (between 10 and 15 per cent of the city’s population). In fact: did you know that 80 per cent of the population comes from India or Pakistan?

The most modern metres in the world

The fact that Dubai was built on sandy desert dunes has never stopped the capital from enjoying services of the highest quality. We could provide you with many examples of this (such as shopping centres, stations and hotels) but the most striking is called Metro Express, a high-speed metro that was inaugurated in 2009 and works without drivers – it’s one of the most modern installations in the world.

Too hot? Never

Before visiting Dubai you have to be remember that the city reaches extreme temperatures at specific times of the year. Seeing how these temperatures can reach heights of 47-49 degrees it’s not surprising that even bus stops are air-conditioned in places. A curious fact? That most of them have power outlets (so you can work inside them) and even WIFI connections.
